From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
Viewers can anticipate finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
