AC Shadows Introduces Surprising Attack on Titan Collaboration for Thanksgiving
In a unexpected partnership that challenges usual expectations, Ubisoft has revealed an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary bonus story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Questline Revealed
According to the authorized release, "A mysterious meeting draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of banned ceremonies and fearsome changes resonate through the obscurity." The storyline presents a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who charges the characters with traveling into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a secret cult.
The mission centers on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.
Familiar Locations and Metamorphoses
The teaser showcases the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer ends with a powerful moment showing a character, presumably the captive, transforming into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Items and Extra Content
Players who successfully complete the quest will receive an unique katana alongside numerous items hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-themed costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Unique implements
- Survey Corps steed
Newest Free Story Addition
This release also brings the game's third no-cost story episode, titled "The Enigma." This playful mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive abilities: Naoe reveals a theatrical variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-fatal stealth takedowns. True to its name, "A Puzzlement" also features a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Previous Japanese Animation Partnerships
This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime series. The series earlier included a 2020 crossover story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally contained a quest that obviously nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
